Blog post 1.2 - New stimulus Idea
New stimulus idea
After considerable thought over my original stimulus idea, I have decided to change it early on in the process. Although changing my stimulus is not ideal, I would prefer to do it now rather than work on a piece that I am not completely happy with. Although I liked my idea surrounding sleep and the concept of dreaming, I feel my idea was too vague and that I would end up basing the storyline of the piece on things that have already been portrayed in the media such as in movies or T.V. Instead, I have decided to rethink my idea. I will now be doing my piece on evacuee children during Work War Two (see photo 1). See photo 2 for notes of this new stimulus idea.
This idea resonates with me because I feel there is a lot more to research regarding these matters. Personally, I am very interested in the lives of people during WW2 and I am fascinated with survivors' personal stories and struggles they faced during it. One of the aims of this piece is to help the audience further understand the lives of children during the war and to perhaps also evoke some thoughts about children today around places that are still suffering living within current wars.
Some of the resources I will use is, firstly, I may try and find someone's individual story they have told and use that to influence the structure of my piece. However, I think I will also use other resources to influence my choreography, such as perhaps poems written about evacuees (King, 2014). I can then use quotes derived from these poems in order to influence individual sections of my piece. I can use the specific words or phrases within these resources to influence and inspire movement I create. I also would like to use some specific gestural movement to represent the timeline of the Child's journey throughout the war during the solo. I also want to be able to portray the emotions they may have felt during these times accurately by using their own writings (Gay, 2014) for example, diaries they may have kept or their own recollection of what happened (A Family in Wartime: Evacuation, 2012)
